Novamag was a well-established platform for creating and publishing online magazines. Over time, the digital publishing market became more competitive, with new players offering more innovative and user-friendly solutions. Stakeholders noticed that Novamag’s interface and technology were falling behind, and the existing magazines were not optimized for SEO or speed, putting the platform at risk of losing relevance.
As the lead developer, my objective was to rebuild the Novamag platform from the ground up. I needed to create a seamless, modern user experience that would make magazine creation easy and intuitive. Another key challenge was to ensure that all existing magazines were migrated, optimized for SEO, and loaded much faster.
I kicked off the project by gathering feedback from Novamag’s core team. I chose Next.js for the new frontend and editing architecture to ensure high performance and scalability. For the visual editing experience, I integrated Puck Editor, which enabled real-time drag-and-drop editing and instant visual feedback. This editor was connected to the existing API, so we could leverage current data structures without a complete rewrite. Throughout the process, I collaborated closely with Novamag’s developers and stakeholders to ensure a seamless experience. In the end the core development team started adapting Next.js for the whole backend as well.
The new Novamag platform launched with a powerful visual editor, allowing users to see changes instantly and iterate quickly. Magazine pages now load significantly faster and are fully optimized for SEO, improving discoverability. User feedback highlighted the ease of use and flexibility, and the platform now stands competitive with leading solutions in the market.
